History: Hiei was the forbidden child of an ice maiden and a fire demon. The ice maidens live in a seperate world, and are an all female race that reproduce through immaculate means. They consider men to be evil, and fear them. When they discovered Hiei, they feared what he might do to the clan when he grew up. To avoid any future problems, they cast him out of the world while he was still an infant.

After being banished from the ice maiden's world, Hiei was taken in by a band of rogues. They raised him for the first few years of his life, training him and teaching him how to fight. He picked up on these skills quickly, even learning how to handle a sword. In addition to this, he was able to conjure and control flames due to being of fire demon descent. When the rogues learned he was killing creatures for fun, they abandoned him, leaving him to fend for himself.

Later in his life, he underwent an operation to have a third eye, otherwise known as the Jagan, implanted in his forehead in order to find his long lost twin sister. The Jagan gives him psychic abilities such as telepathy.

His searches eventually brought him into the human realm, where he met up with Kurama, who was under the alias of Shuuichi Minamino. The two teamed up, stealing precious artifacts together. This led them to meet up with Yuusuke Urameshi. After Hiei lost a battle to him, he is forced to join his team along with Kurama. They must help Yuusuke complete missions that are given to him by Spirit World in order pay off their debt for the crimes they have committed.

Personality: Hiei's personality can go to either side of the spectrum. He is usually fairly mellow, and tends to take things in stride. He has a tough skin, and insults or bluntness generally don't faze him. Despite this, he does come off as rather grumpy. Think wet cat. He can be snappy, and if he feels that someone is beneath him, he lets them know it.

He is above average when it comes to intelligence, but he's rather uncultured when it comes to some human practices. His intelligence is at times overshadowed by his stubbornness. Once Hiei sets his mind to something, chances are that he isn't going to let go until he accomplishes his goal, regardless of the consequences. He is very proud, and sees himself as an extremely independent individual.
